Hybrid Vehicles Available In The U.S.

The price of gasoline and fuel has been reported to increase once again. And this just after seeing the price of gasoline drop last month.
In the state of Illinois, the American Automobile Association (AAA) reported that the price of gasoline has increased by as much as 30 cents per gallon, while the average increase across the state is estimated to be 25 cents per gallon over the month of February. The increase in the price of gasoline saw it rise eight cents more than the price last year for the same month.
The dependency on foreign oil makes the country susceptible to these price increases in the price of gasoline. That is why car buyers are looking for new vehicles with a good fuel economy rating.
In the automotive industry, car manufacturers have developed a solution to the demand for fuel efficient cars. Hybrid vehicles are the answer of car manufacturers to the continued increase in the prices of gasoline. These vehicles are equipped with a small engine and an electric motor which generates additional power to help the engine.
Toyota has started the hybrid revolution in the United States and the popularity of the Prius, Toyota s hybrid car, has spawned a lot of hybrid vehicles to be offered to American car buyers. Different car manufacturer now offer a wide range of hybrid vehicles for the fuel consumption conscious car buyer.
Toyota, which started the hybrid revolution, offers the Prius - the first hybrid in the U.S. Aside from the Prius, Toyota also offers two hybrid versions of their more popular models. They offer a hybrid version of the mid-size sedan Camry, and of the popular SUV Highlander.
Aside from the Toyota division manufacturing hybrid vehicles, the company s luxury brand Lexus also offers hybrid vehicles. Lexus offers the G45h hybrid, the 600hL hybrid, and the RX 400h hybrid. Aside from Toyota, other Asian brands have also capitalized on the increased demand for clean and fuel efficient vehicles.
Honda is offering a hybrid version of the Accord in response to the Camry hybrid. Aside from the Honda Accord hybrid, Honda also offers a hybrid version of the compact sedan Civic and of the Honda Insight.
Meanwhile, Nissan, another Asian brand also offers a hybrid car in its lineup - the Nissan Altima hybrid complete with Nissan cargo liner.
While Asian brands have clearly taken control of the hybrid vehicle market in the U.S., domestic car manufacturers are also making their bid to satisfy the demands of American motorists for fuel efficient vehicles.
General Motors, for example, has four hybrid vehicles offered in the market. The GMC Sierra is one of the more popular models from GMC and General Motors saw that a hybrid version of the Sierra will be accepted warmly by the public.
Aside from the GMC Sierra, GM s Chevrolet division also produced a Chevy Silverado Hybrid car for those who want the versatility of big vehicles without having to sacrifice fuel efficiency.
Another General Motors owned brand, Saturn, is also offering hybrid vehicles in its Green Line model lineup. The Saturn Vue is one of the models from Saturn with a hybrid version. The other hybrid vehicle from Saturn is the Aura Green Line hybrid vehicle.

Sharpness of the Acura TL

Superseding the Acura Vigor in 1996, the Acura TL is a midsize entry-level luxury car. It is manufactured and sold under the Acura brand, which is under the automobile manufacturer, Honda. It has become quite popular in its own way and received a name for itself as the best selling luxury sedan, after selling more than 79,000 units in 2004.
In 1998, Honda introduced the Acura TL-X concept car. It featured a preview of the second generation of TLs that would make its public entrance after a year. This second generation TL is now called as the 3.2 TL. It has a newly-designed 3.2 liter 225 HP SOHC VTEC J32 V6 along with a four-speed electronic automatic transmission with SportShift. The only option given to this vehicle was a hard drive based navigation system. Changes continued to roll in for the Acura TL as the years went on. This vehicle sported changes like a five speed automatic transmission with SportShift, that gave way for a slightly better fuel economy and acceleration. Other changes included the addition of side impact airbags for the front passengers and a change of format in its navigation system. Also done in were a DVD based navigation system where a driver could theoretically drive from one coast to another with this new navigation system installed. The system had stored the maps in zones and there were five different zones for the United States. The vehicle also sported a new fa ade with its redesigned tail lights, a great-looking and beveled front, and a wide, yet powerful stance. The gutter at the beltline of the vehicle sported a tough, extruded shape that could make one recall the blade of a hunting knife. Also added were an in-dash CD changer, firmer seats and suspension for the year 2002.
Come the 3rd generation Acura TL, it became the first car in the U.S. market to have a six disc DVD-Audio system which had an output through an 8-speaker system. This system was engineered by Panasonic, and it also plays back normal audio CDs along with DTS audio discs, CD-audio, CD-Rs, and CD-RWs. It also has a Bluetooth HandsFree Link, or HFL, system that is integrated with the audio system itself and this HFL system allows drivers to use their cellular phones hands-free. By simply voice-dialing the number that they need to contact, drivers can have the entire conversation over the Acura TL s built-in audio system.
The Acura TL makes drivers feel great when they are behind the wheel for Honda has certainly kept in mind to consider ergonomics. With the Acura TL, the driving position feels perfectly natural. The controls carry the feel as if they belong in a performance car. It also has notably short-stroke brake pedals that lets drivers modulate the new four-piston Brembo front brakes with a precision that could be considered as complete.
If Acura TL owners want to maintain the superior performance of their Acuras, http://www.carpartswholesale.com would be perfect for them since it is the leading supplier of Acura discount-priced Acura car parts that are made from the finest quality materials. For Acura parts demands, Auto Parts Discount offers electrical parts, fenders, floor mats, hoods, headlamps, door kits, and more.

Car Sharing A Neglected Solution?

With congestion continuing to rise on Britain s roads a number of solutions have been proposed, raising tax being the main one. However, every day in the UK there are over 10 million empty seats on the roads. Worse still, the vast majority of these empty seats are during the rush hour, with average occupancy for commuting only 1.2. The solution appears to be simple car sharing. This is further supported by recent research which found that over 50% of commuters would car share on their way to work if they could find someone suitable to share with.
Car sharing has often been talked about but only ever considered to be a small scale solution, unlikely to have a significant effect on congestion levels. Again, the evidence suggests otherwise. A 25% increase in car occupancy levels would result in the number of commuting cars on the road falling by 21%. Put another way, if everyone shared a journey to work just once a week then the effect would be similar. With over 50% of people happy to try car sharing out this could be an attainable target.
So why has car sharing failed to take off in a big way? Put simply, a lack of funding. Without the money to raise awareness of car sharing and the ways to go about finding someone to share with, the concept of car sharing is always going to be doomed to being an insignificant solution.
Why hasn t the funding been provided by the government, particularly in light of the many reports that have come out over recent years highlighting the potential of car sharing? One can only speculate but to governments the idea of car sharing isn t so attractive. It generates no additional government revenue and is in fact likely to reduce it, particularly with the decline in fuel consumption. Compared with the prospect of continuing to dramatically increase taxes on motorists, many of whom have no choice but to use their cars, car sharing doesn t stand a chance.
The benefits of car sharing are also often vastly underestimated. Car sharing does hugely reduce petrol consumption for the individuals involved and if promoted in a large way then congestion and pollution could be reduced significantly. Other benefits include reduced parking problems and the lower mileage done by each car means that they depreciate less rapidly.
However, one statistics that is overlooked is the impact of car sharing on road safety. The number of speeding fines handed out in the UK in 2005 reached the 2 million mark. With road safety being of such apparent importance the statistic that the likelihood of having an accident is reduced by 50% if there are two or more people in the car should make the relevant authorities sit up and take note. The way to increase road safety is to promote car sharing. The added fact that it is also makes driving cheaper for the individual, and reduces congestion and pollution, should encourage people to take car sharing seriously.
Becoming involved in car sharing is very straightforward. Liftshare.org was established in 1997 and now has over 130,000 members one million journeys registered. It s also free to join, with a simple registration form to complete before you can register a journey and begin searching for travel companions. Whether you re traveling to work, a festival or a sporting event car sharing is possible.
